The Faculty of Build Environment University of New South Wales

The Faculty of the Built Environment at the University of New South Wales requested RIB, formerly known as ProjectCentre, deliver a course on “IT in the Construction Industry” at both an undergraduate and post graduate level. RIB embraced this opportunity to generate and deliver the interactive course material.

RIB’s contribution comprised of a series of three, one-hour lectures, followed by two hour hands-on tutorials, presented at the University’s state-of-the-art IT laboratory. The focus was on how iTWOcx software is able to support internet-based project management in construction, and formed a component of the University’s courses on the application of IT in construction management. The lectures covered the use of iTWOcx as a web-based collaborative platform for document management, correspondence, contract administration and workflow management.

The course was considered a valuable success by both faculty and students. Faculty commented that students were impressed by the interactive and dynamic delivery methods. A key component to the course was the “real-life scenario” role playing, facilitated by the RIB Team’s comprehensive industry knowledge.

Sidney Newton, PhD MRICS AAIQS, Head of Construction Management & Property at UNSW expressed his appreciation regarding the success of the program, “I can report that students found the opportunity to role play and understand the roles of all stakeholders in a construction project particularly useful. Your interactive and dynamic delivery methods were certainly appreciated. Providing direct access for students actually to use the software is always particularly effective.”

Student Keaton Rutherford took the time to praise RIB on their efforts as well: “I would like to commend the RIB team on the fantastic course that you presented over three weeks. I was one of the students from UNSW who undertook the course and I believe it has been the most useful and beneficial information we have been given in the two years I have been attending university. This was mainly due to the fact that, iTWOcx is a program that we will most likely be using when we enter the industry.”
